Russian missiles hit railway hub near Ukraine's capital
A railway hub near Kyiv was attacked during a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack that damaged the depot and railway carriages, Ukrainian state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia said.
The railway did not report any casualties from the overnight attack in the town of Fastiv.
Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy sector and infrastructure in recent weeks, targeting power stations and railway hubs.
Ukrzaliznytsia said on Telegram that it was forced to cancel several suburban trains near the capital and the city of Chernihiv in northeastern Ukraine.
Emergency services reported a fire and destruction on the territory of the railway station and depot, but gave no more details.

Ukraine drones hit Russia's Ryazan, Voronezh regions
Ukrainian drones targeted Russia's Ryazan and Voronezh regions overnight, causing damage but no casualties, local governors said this morning.
The attack sparked a fire on the roof of a multi-storey residential building, and debris from drones fell into the grounds of "an industrial facility," Ryazan governor Pavel Malkov said.
Malkov did not name the facility. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted a local refinery.
Ukraine has ramped up drone attacks deep inside Russia, aiming to knock out oil refineries, depots and pipelines. Ukrainian drones have struck at least 17 major refineries this year.
In the Voronezh region, governor Alexander Gusev said a drone strike damaged a fuel station, a school and several residential buildings.
Russia's defence ministry said its air defences shot down 116 Ukrainian drones overnight.

Keir Giles: Europe needs to get ready for war with Russia
The findings of the UK’s inquiry into the death of Dawn Sturgess demonstrate not only Russia’s ruthlessness but also the severe impact that even a limited Russian attack can have on unprepared societies like Britain, writes Russia expert Keir Giles.
In the same week, the latest iteration of the so-called “peace process“ over Ukraine has demonstrated once again how Europe as a whole is still paralysed by denial and magical thinking over the nature of the threat from Russia and what is needed to withstand it.
Unless and until European leaders face up to the threat and respond with the urgency it demands, they will continue to be seen in Moscow as a soft target.

EU plans strategic overhaul of energy grid
The EU will take a top-down approach to building a cross-border energy grid, as the bloc's Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen warned of billions lost from bottlenecks and failures to match supply with demand, the Financial Times reported on Saturday.
Brussels will develop a plan to identify where investment is needed and will find projects to fill those gaps to push EU countries to better co-ordinate energy infrastructure across borders and sectors, the report added.
Jorgensen told the Financial Times that the "biggest danger" to the block’s decarbonisation and energy security goals was the slow construction of its power grid.

Ukraine's military chief says giving up territory would be 'unjust peace'
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the head of Ukrainian armed forces, has said that it would be "unacceptable" for Ukraine to "simply give up territory" in any peace deal with Russia.
He told Sky News that a "just peace" can only be achieved if fighting is halted along current frontlines, followed by negotiations.
He accused Russian leader Vladimir Putin of using an attempt by Donald Trump to broker peace talks as "cover" while Russian troops try to capture more land.
General Syrskyi warned that the fate of the whole of Europe is at stake.
"Our main mission is to defend our land, our country, and our population," he told the broadcaster.
"Naturally, for us it is unacceptable to simply give up territory. What does it even mean - to hand over our land? This is precisely why we are fighting; so we do not give up our territory."

Putin offers India ‘uninterrupted’ fuel supply despite Trump pressure
Vladimir Putin has offered "uninterrupted shipments" of fuel to India during a visit to Delhi, risking a fresh diplomatic row with Donald Trump.
Mr Putin and prime minister Narendra Modi this week signed cooperation agreements, with a joint statement asserting their ties were "resilient to external pressure".
The agreement comes despite the US imposing a 25 per cent tariff on India over its purchases of Russian energy, aiming to pressure Moscow regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Russia 'kills' another Ukrainian prisoner of war
Russian troops have allegedly killed yet another Ukrainian prisoner of war, who had surrendered in Siversk, the Ukrainian authorities said.
A video on Russian information channels showed Vladimir Putin's troops at one of the Ukrainian positions after Russian soldiers carried out a covert infiltration into the combat formations of Ukraine's Defense Forces near Svyato-Pokrovske village.
"The footage shows a Ukrainian soldier raising his hands and demonstrating his willingness to surrender, meaning he was no longer participating in hostilities. Despite this, the occupiers continued to keep him at gunpoint and probably opened fire, which could have led to his death," Kyiv Independent reported, citing the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade.
The wounded soldier tried to take cover, but the Russian soldier "finished him off with a shot from an assault rifle", the prosecutor general's office said.

Peace depends on Russia, say US and Ukraine negotiators
Negotiators from the US and Ukraine have said that the path toward peace depended on Russia as they decided to meet for a third day of talks in Florida today.
The officials, who met for a second day in Florida yesterday, issued a joint statement that offered broad brushstrokes about the progress they say that’s been made as Donald Trump pushes Kyiv and Moscow to agree to a US-mediated proposal to end nearly four years of war.
“Both parties agreed that real progress toward any agreement depends on Russia’s readiness to show serious commitment to long-term peace, including steps toward de-escalation and cessation of killings,” the statement said.
“Parties also separately reviewed the future prosperity agenda, which aims to support Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, joint US–Ukraine economic initiatives, and long-term recovery projects.”

Police are investigating the presence of drones over Ireland during Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky's visit.
Mr Zelensky gave a historic address to a joint sitting of the Oireachtas earlier this week and met with government figures and president Catherine Connolly.
Mr Zelensky and his wife, Olena Zelenska, arrived in Dublin late on Monday night, with Irish broadcaster RTE reporting several unidentified drones were seen flying near Howth, over the Irish Sea, at around the time the Ukrainian president arrived at Dublin Airport.
The Gardai confirmed in a statement that a Special Detective Unit was investigating the incident.
A Garda Siochana's Special Detective Unit (SDU) is investigating this matter," the statement said.
"As part of this, SDU will be liaising with the Defence Forces and international security partners."
