Italy host France to open the 2021 Six Nations in Rome. The Azzuri currently hold the worst losing streak in tournament history – a run of 27 defeats. During that streak, they have lost twice by fewer than 10 points and the last time they picked up a bonus point was almost three years ago. Their awful run of form looks set to continue against France, who appeared to turn a corner in 2020.

Les Bleus are traditionally an unpredictable outfit, but they lost out to England in last year’s tournament on points difference – and 24-year-old scrum-half Antoine Dupont was named Player of the Championship with 46% of the vote. They also impressed against England in the Autumn Nations Cup, losing the final 22-19 after extra time.

This ultimately doesn’t bode well for Italy, even though they produced their finest performance of the 2020 Six Nations against France in Paris. The Italians scored three tries in a 35-22 defeat, but were embarrassed when they returned to the French capital in November for the Autumn Nations Cup pool game. Despite taking the lead through fly-half Carlo Canna’s try, the French dominated to win 36-5. Follow all the latest updates below:

Scotland win another penalty after the bustling run of Hamish Watson threatens to puncture a hole, England again infringing at the breakdown. Scotland will throw a lineout just outside the English 22.

But Maro Itoje charges down Price's attempted clearance! Those long limbs get up high and block the box, and he is swift to get on to the loose ball, but has little support, and the first arriving player dives off their feet to protect the ball. Scotland can clear the penalty away.

Fast start from Itoje, back in the thick of things after a fallow winter with Saracens inactive until recently and risking few of their big guns in their sole encounter this year with Ealing.

Scotland claim the kick-off and clear their lines, Henry Slade's first carry in anger well handled by the Scottish defence, and England forced to the boot.

Another exchange of kicks sees Ben Youngs eventually hoist a box kick skywards, and a retreating Ali Price does well to gather it.

England's players are accompanied by Laura Wright's soprano - little fuss as she crescendos to the final note, and into battle the players will stride.

    Flower of Scotland

The socially distanced Scottish squad sing along to the bagpipes of "Flower of Scotland", Stuart Hogg swaying with nervous anticipation and adrenaline at the end of the line. The captain is ready.

The players also observe a silence as rugby unites against racism, with most of the England squad and a number of Scots taking a knee with bowed heads.

    Kitted out

Out onto the field come the players, each side clad in something a little special: Scotland's players each wear kits adorned with the name of their equivalent from that first fixture 150 years ago at Raeburn Place, while England have a special anniversary kit modelled on the one worn on that occasion.

All in the ground clap in commemeration of some of those we have sadly lost from the rugby fraternity recently, along with Captain Tom.
