The Bachelor star Grant Ellis has announced that he and fiancée Juliana Pasquarosa have called off their engagement, months after he proposed during the season 29 finale.

“This is one of the harder things I’ve had to write, but I want to share it honestly,” Ellis, 31, wrote Friday on his Instagram Story.

“Juliana and I have decided to end our relationship. We both gave this our best and poured a lot of love into each other, but after a lot of deep conversations, we’ve come to the understanding that we’re simply not the right fight long term,” continued the former professional basketball player, who led the latest season of ABC’s hit reality dating series.

“What we had was meaningful. The connection we built on the show was real, and so was the effort we made to continue once the cameras stopped rolling,” he added.

He confirmed that “there’s nothing negative. No resentment,” adding: “Just two people who care about each other and want the best for one another moving forward. I’ll always be grateful for what we shared and for the growth that came with it. Thank you to everyone who supported us and believed in our journey. This chapter is closing, but we’re both walking away with love and respect in our hearts.”

Pasquarosa, 28, also addressed the breakup on her Instagram Story, asking fans to “please be kind.”

“It’s a gift to find someone who sees the world in a way that resonates with you, while also encouraging you to grow,” she began. “I’ve been grateful to share that experience with Grant.”

Acknowledging that “marriage is a commitment, and it’s one we both still believe in deeply,” she explained that “after a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we’ve come to the decision that this chapter of our lives is meant to continue on separate paths.”

“We shared something meaningful, navigating a unique journey side by side, learning, growing, and showing up for each other the best we knew how. And while this isn't the ending we once imagined, it’s one filled with mutual respect, care, and hope for what’s ahead,” she said. “We’re still cheering each other on, just from different places now.”

She concluded by thanking fans for “all the love and support you all have given us.”

Ellis became The Bachelor’s second-ever Black male lead this past January. He first joined Bachelor Nation as a contestant on Jenn Tran’s season 21 of The Bachelorette.

During his season of The Bachelor, Ellis was introduced to 25 eager women, including Pasquarosa, who competed for his heart.

In the season finale, which aired March 24, Ellis shocked fans when he gave his final rose to Pasquarosa over fellow finalist Litia Garr.

Following her breakup with Ellis, Garr admitted that she hadn’t seen it coming.

“Grant and I had talked a lot about that day, and everything that he had ever said about it was that it was going to be us,” Garr revealed in the “After the Final Rose” reunion episode.

“We were getting engaged from, you know, the first one-on-one that we had in L.A. until the night before that day. I remember saying goodbye to him and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, we are getting engaged tomorrow.’ And he said, ‘I know I can’t wait. I love you. I love you. I love you.’”

Garr also claimed that Ellis had told her that she was his “number one emotional connection” and wanted to “stop the show early” because he knew that she was the one for him.

Addressing Ellis on stage during the live event, Garr told him: “The switch-up is crazy. I’m disappointed.… I just want to be so clear that I’m confused and I’m sad. And I’m mad.”
