A fire whirlwind or 'firenado' has torn through a sugarcane field in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. Firefighting teams worked to extinguish the flames earlier this month and no injuries were reported.
According to São Paulo state's Civil Defense, which released the video, the phenomenon occurs when intense heat from a fire rapidly warms air near the ground. The hot air rises quickly and, combined with wind, begins to rotate, creating a fire tornado.
