Disaster struck at the Winter Olympics for Ilia Malinin, the world famous US figure skater, who failed to win his expected gold medal and came in eighth.
At SkateQuest, the skating rink in Virginia where Malinin trains, a watch party of family, friends, and supporters all gathered to see him compete.
Nicknamed 'Quad God' after his quadruple axel, Malinin is the first and only skater to successfully land the move in international competition.
He failed to pull off the move on Friday, and scored 156.33, a far cry from the world record of 238.24 he set in December last year.
