HSBC is used by millions of Britons for their day-to-day banking needs, but unfortunately, unscrupulous scammers are seeking to take advantage. Unsuspecting Britons have reported receiving a text message alert supposedly from HSBC. In the message, they are told a payment has been issued from their account, and they may need to take action.
One variation of the scam text message read: “HSBC: A new PAYEE has been added to your account today at 12:12AM.
“If this was NOT you, please visit: payees-cancellation.com/hsbc.”
Evidently, this message could be concerning for Britons, particularly those who feel their bank account could be at risk from fraud.
Many will wish to take steps to secure their account and ensure their savings and details are protected.

This could then lead to devastating consequences, such as identity theft or the compromising of a person’s bank account.
As a result, Britons are being encouraged to remain on their guard when it comes to any text message they receive claiming to be from an official source.
Particularly, people should be very careful when it comes to clicking links contained within messages.
Several individuals shared their concerns with the bank on social media, and urged people to look out for the scam.
Thankfully, the real banking provider was on hand to offer support and advice to individuals who may have been affected.
HSBC responded to one concern which was raised, and provided further clarity on the situation.
The bank’s team said: “Hi - it is a scam! You can forward a screenshot by email to our phishing team on phishing@hsbc.co.uk.
“Thank you for letting us know and for being so vigilant and not clicking on the link. Stay safe.”
