Nuno’s side are 13th in the table after winning only two of their last six in the league, and none of the last three. A goalless draw against Aston Villa in midweek kept Wolves in touch with the sides around the middle of the table, but a top-half finish looks unlikely this season, in contrast to the past couple of years when they have been in contention for European spots.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been on their most horrendous run of league form in memory - six defeats from seven, with their sole victory in that time coming against the top flight’s bottom side Sheffield United. Last time out it was a home defeat against Fulham - though they returned to winning ways in midweek in the Champions League.

Victory against RB Leipzig sent the Reds through to the last eight in Europe, but if they want to be in that competition again next season they need a quick turnaround in fortunes domestically, with the Reds eighth in the table at the start of play.

What is the team news?

Wolves are hoping Daniel Podence could return to the squad after injury, but Marcal is still out and Raul Jimenez is a long-term absentee. Wolves have returned to a back three recently but could switch shape given Liverpool’s recent wins over Leipzig and Sheffield United both came against that system.

Liverpool are without centre-backs Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for the season. Jordan Henderson is also out, while sub keeper Caoimhin Kelleher is almost ready to return after an abdominal injury.
