Dozens more bank branches are set to close across the UK next month as customers increasingly move towards online banking. NatWest, Lloyds, Halifax and Santander have announced a raft of closures between them, with 77 set to close across the four banking giants. 

19 of the closures will be taking place next week, with Halifax shutting nine, NatWest closing eight, and Lloyds shutting two.

It comes amid a major shift online as banks across the country scale back their brick-and-mortar offering to prioritise their online services.

Many more will be serving customers for the final time next month. Read on to find out if your branch is affected.

Halifax is set to pull down the shutters on 14 more branches next month, following a raft of closures in recent years.

The following sites will be closing for good next month:

Halifax is owned by Lloyds Banking Group along with Lloyds and Bank of Scotland, which are also closing various branches this year.

A spokesperson for the group previously said: "Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money, and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.

"Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches.

"Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a Banking Hub."

25 NatWest branches look set to close in June too, with 53 closing in total across this year as its customers move online.

It also shut 48 in 2024 and 30 the year before that, and has closed more than 1,400 since 2015.

The bank previously said that their customers "are using digital banking more than ever before – over 80% of our active current account holders now use our digital services and over 97 per cent of retail accounts with us are now opened online".

“Like any business, we strive to meet our customers’ changing needs and expectations and we’ve been responding to the industry-wide shift towards digital services by investing to broaden what customers can do themselves and to offer them greater personalisation.

“We are also significantly investing in refreshing our network – we expect to invest in excess of £20m in our network across the UK in 2025 to improve customer service, enhance the look and feel of our branches, and reduce the environmental impact of our buildings, as well as continuing to invest in shared solutions like the Post Office and Banking Hubs.”

Santander are closing 95 branches this year from June, including 24 branches next month.

Dozens of other sites will also move to reduced hours this year, while 18 branches will go counter-free as part of nationwide changes.

Santander previously said the move is driven by changing customer behaviours, with digital transactions rising by 63% since 2019, and branch transactions dropping by 61%.

A spokesperson for the bank told Metro.co.uk: "Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers.

"However, we believe that the introduction of our new Community Bankers and the exciting plans we have for our remaining network of 349 branches and Work Cafés, alongside the rapid and innovative improvements to our award-winning mobile banking app, will provide the right balance of digital banking and human interaction when required."
