    Premiership Rugby has announced that its latest round of coronavirus testing produced five positive results for Covid-19.

    The rugby union competition, which is set to resume on 14 August, conducted tests on 846 people on Monday, with four players and one member of staff found to have contracted the disease.

    A statement read: "Those who have tested positive and their close contacts will now isolate and be assessed in line with the PHE-agreed guidelines.

    "Premiership Rugby and the RFU (Rugby Football Union) are providing this aggregated information for competition integrity and transparency.

    "No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided. The number of positive results will be made public after each round of testing."

    In its first round of testing on 6 July, Premiership Rugby recorded 10 positive results for coronavirus from 804 tests. Of the 10 people found to have been infected, six were players and four were non-playing staff.

    The second round on 13 July saw 856 people tested, with nine positive results for Covid-19 – seven players and two members of staff returned said results.

    In the third round of testing, just two people from 896 tested were found to have coronavirus.
