Unchecked: Simone Biles Doesn’t Owe the Olympics Everything
Day four of the Olympic Games has seen US superstar Simone Biles forced out of the women’s team gymnastics final.
The best gymnast in the world was hoping to win the first of a possible six gold medals but instead was forced to sit out following just one apparatus after a “medical issue” following the vault.
Biles later said that she was not mentally right for the event, in which Team USA took silver.
“I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being,” she said.
Elsewhere in a major blow to the hosts, tennis star Naomi Osaka has been knocked out of her home Olympics after losing in two straight sets to Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova.
British hopes were resting on swimmer Duncan Scott going into the men’s 200m freestyle final alongside teammate Tom Dean, and the duo did not disappoint with Dean taking gold and Scott silver. Bianca Walkden claimed a bronze medal in the women’s +67kg taekwondo category, Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury progressed in the men’s tennis doubles while Team GB are through to the semi-finals in the rugby sevens.
Earlier Flora Duffy added the Olympic title to her collection of world titles to win Bermuda’s first ever Games gold medal, as Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown won silver despite suffering a punctured tyre in a rain-soaked women’s triathlon.

Ugandan weightlifter who went missing in Japan arrested on return home
A Ugandan weightlifter who went missing in Japan after unsuccessfully trying to compete in the Olympics was arrested on his return home.
Julius Ssekitoleko, 20, disappeared from his country’s team training site in the city of Izumisano, and now has been detained back in Uganda without charges, according to NBC News.
It has still not ben explained what Ssekitoleko was doing with the team as he had failed to qualify for the delayed 2020 Games.

German judoka defends coach slapping and shaking her before Olympic bout
Martyna Trajdos posted footage of the bizarre incident on her Instagram account and defender her coach, saying thay it was part of her pre-fight ritual.
“Look’s like this was not hard enough ☺️🙊🙈!I wish I could have made a different headline today 😢.As I already said that’s the ritual which I chose pre competition !My coach is just doing what I want him to do to fire me up!” she posted after losing to a Hungarian opponent in Tokyo.

A taekwondo Olympian from Jordan has sparked attention from around the globe for her similarities to Lady Gaga.
Julyana Al-Sadeq, 26, is representing Jordan in the Tokyo Olympics, and she drew a lot of attention on social media after she competed for her resemblance to the 35-year-old pop singer and actress.

Video of family and friends celebrating Team GB’s Tom Dean winning gold goes viral
The wild celebrations were captured at Maidenhead Swimming Club in the UK as Dean stormed to victory in the 200m freestyle final.
Fellow Team GB swimmer Duncan Scott came second to take silver, the first time since 1908 that two male British swimmers have finished on the Olympic podium together.
The video, which was posed by Lewis Coombes of the BBC, has now been watched more than 2.6m times and received more than 32,000 likes.

Aly Raisman says Simone Biles “has more pressure on her than any other gymnast'
The Olympic star’s former teammate said that she was “proud” that Biles decided to focus on her mental health when she stepped away from the team all-around competition at Tokyo.
The pair won gold together at Rio 2016 and Riasman, 27, says that “none of us know what it feels like to be Simone Biles right now.”
“You know, I felt like I had a lot of pressure and that was nothing compared to what Simone has on her right now,” Raisman told People.
“Simone has more pressure than any other gymnast I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. And it’s a lot.
“And I think that it’s a bigger conversation of, you know, there needs to be better systems out there to support the mental health of athletes and to help athletes navigate how much pressure they’re under.”

The iconic gymnast took to social media after pulling out of the team all-around event, which Team USA went on to win a silver medal in.
Biles, who has spoken of the pressure she feel at the expectations placed on her, later told journalists that she had pulled out in order to concentrate on her mental health.
