If you’re new to the slow-motion launch of Truth Social, here’s everything you need to know about the nascent social network.

Jason Miller, formerly a close press aide to Donald Trump, remains the CEO of Gettr – a “free speech”–themed app aimed at conservative users angry about big tech and cancel culture. In theory at least, the launch of Truth Social sets his boss up as his main competitor.

Mr Miller appeared this weekend on the UK’s right-wing network GB News to promote his own app, touting the size and international nature of its user base – and barely mentioning his boss’s new venture in the process.

Even as Truth Social rolls out, Mr Miller has yet to mention the launch on his own Twitter feed.

Twitter user z3dster points out that the Truth Social logo isn’t exactly the pinnacle of originality. In fact, it closely resembles that of a British company, Trailar, which describes its mission as “to create a world of more efficient, more sustainable transport, through the use of solar and data-driven technology”.

Donald Trump is famously no fan of renewable energy, and has previously suggested that the noise from windmills can cause cancer. Gino Spocchia has more:

Speaking to MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday gave his view on how accusations of “wokeness” are being weaponised against Democrats by the far right. While the first round of large-membership testing for Truth Social is now open, most users are having to get in a queue after creating their accounts, with several weeks’ wait for full access to the platform ahead.

Adam Johnson, who was famously pictured carrying a “closed to all tours” sign through the Capitol on 6 January while wearing a Trump bobble hat, is facing potential jail time for his actions on the day, which prosecutors say he carried out with a confidence that in turn reflects “his sense of entitlement and privilege”.

Far-right Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene this weekend appeared on InfoWars, the conspiracy theory-mongering outlet led by Alex Jones, to defend herself against allegations that she is dangerously out of touch with reality. The resulting interview did little to dispel the impression.

Daily Dot reporter Mikael Thalen last night managed to access Truth Social’s internal beta version – and his thread of screenshots from the innards of the site is quite a read, especially moments like this: “Another account posted memes & statements praising Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. It's unclear if the account was run by a moderator attempting to teach Truth Social's systems to flag such imagery or merely a fan page from someone at TMTG.”
