Savers can get more by keeping an eye on changing rates (Image: Getty)
Savings experts warn Brits about the money they're potentially losing out on by not looking at the best interest rates on the market. Several new savings products have been introduced to the UK market in recent months, which means that there is a lot of money sitting in accounts paying below the market rate. In fact, many savers actually have money gathering dust in accounts paying little to no interest.
With inflation, that means they are actually losing spending power. In its recent savings update, Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert team have listed the top five 'normal' savings accounts with the highest rates. These accounts aren't ISAs, so they're useful to have as an add-on if you have already maxed out your annual ISA allowance. Plus, they all come with certain conditions you should be aware of before committing to opening an account.
Money Saving Expert lists the following as the five highest-paying 'normal' savings accounts on the market right now.
1. Spring (part of Paragon Bank) Accelerated Saver - 5%
The 5% offer ends on Wednesday, so savers only have a few hours to take advantage of this one. Plus, the 5% is only paid on a small amount, with savers only able to get returns on a maximum sum of £5,000.
The account is opened online, and interest can be paid monthly or annually. Withdrawals can be made, but only to your linked current account. Plus, they might take two hours.
2. Cahoot (part of Santander) Sunny Day Saver - 5%
This account lasts a year after it is opened, and its rate is variable. Plus, savers can only have a maximum of £3,000 in the account, so it's a good bonus on top of other high-paying savings pots you have.
The account can easily be opened online, and interest is paid either monthly or annually. A benefit is that you can withdraw money whenever you like.
3. Zopa Bank (newbies only) - 4.56%
Zopa's savings account comes with a 3.5% variable rate and a one-year 1.06% bonus. The rate falls to 2% after 3 withdrawals per year, while there is a maximum interest-earning balance of £50,000, with no bonus on up to £250k.
Customers can open the account online, and interest is paid monthly. However, you must open its Smart Saver first, then open the limited-access pot.
4. Cynergy Bank - 4.55%
Cynergy Bank's Easy Access Account offers a 2.55% variable rate and a one-year 2% bonus. Savers have a lot of freedom with this one, as they can place anywhere between £1 and £1 million into the account.
It is easily opened online, and interest is paid annually. Savers' money can be accessed at any time.
5. Oxbury Bank (newbies only) - 4.3%
Money Saving Expert calls this the best "fuss-free" option. The account has a minimum £1,000 balance and a maximum of £120,000. The account can be opened online or via the app, and the app will be needed to manage it.
Meanwhile, interest is paid monthly.
