Eggs produced by Australia’s Bridgewater Poultry Farm have been recalled due to a potential Salmonella enteritidis contamination.

The eggs were distributed through Woolworths and independent stores in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. They were also distributed at Coles stores in Victoria and South Australia.

Products that are being recalled include:

• Woolworths 12 Cage Free Eggs 700g (barcode 9300633636982)
• Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 600g
• Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 700g
• Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 800g
• Loddon Valley Barn Laid 600g (Victoria and South Australia only)

Best before dates for the affected products can be found on the Australia-New Zealand Food Standards agency website.

“The health and safety of consumers is of the highest priority and Bridgewater Poultry Farm is working with the relevant government health and agricultural departments to investigate this incident at our site that may have been introduced through the purchase of interstate eggs,” the company said in a statement issued on March 21. “The investigation is continuing.”

As a precaution, the farm has been quarantined and strict measures to protect neighboring farms are in place. The company reminded consumers that regular Salmonella enteritidis surveillance is conducted in Australia to ensure early detection, containment and eradication.

Consumers who purchased any of the recalled eggs are encouraged to return them to where they were purchased for a full refund.
