Jet2 has announced the launch of its first business-class-only aircraft for chartered flights.

The “specially configured” Boeing 737-800NG has flown its first charter customers out of Liverpool John Lennon airport.

Now available to book throughout the winter season, it is the low-cost airline's first aircraft configured in a business-class specification with 76 business-class seats and a minimum of 43 inches of legroom.

Upgraded catering “tailored to requirements” will also be on offer to charter customers.

Standard Jet2 aircraft are configured with 189 seats.

The airline said the move followed a demand from sports, music, entertainment and specialist groups who are “seeking privacy, comfort, flexibility and an elevated travel experience”.

According to Jet2, early feedback from customers has praised the premium feel, comfort, generous personal space and exclusive onboard environment.

Trevor Caplis, head of charter and airline sales at Jet2, said: “This is the first time that we have featured a dedicated business class specification on our aircraft, so this is an incredibly exciting development for charter customers.

“The feedback from charter customers who have flown on it has been exceptional, with the premium feel, space and comfort onboard really shining through. This luxurious cabin environment, alongside the award-winning Jet2 customer service, looks set to be a huge hit with charter clients this winter.”

Earlier this month, British Airways unveiled a first class that emulates a “luxury hotel” in the sky, and the world’s largest business class cabin.

The multi-million-pound makeover of British Airways’ A380 jumbo jets, the world’s largest type of passenger aircraft, is thought to be one of the most extensive cabin refurbishment programmes ever undertaken by an airline.

The first completed A380s will enter service in the coming months, with the upper-class cabins receiving the most extensive transformation.
