England cricket fast bowler Brydon Carse has been charged by the Cricket Regulator for bringing the game into disrepute following an incident in Derby in August.
Carse was arrested and then de-arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly after a night out with Durham in the city in the early hours of the morning of 23 August, with footage on social media showing him in handcuffs.
Derbyshire Police subsequently confirmed it was looking into an allegation of assault on the night in question, though closed that investigation last month.
The 31-year-old Carse was stood down from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan after the incident, and has not been picked by the national team since.
He could now face sanction after being charged with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, with the matter referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel.
Carse made the last of his 58 England appearances in the fifth Ashes Test against Australia in January, missing the start of the summer through injury.
He featured regularly for Durham in the County Championship as they gained promotion to Division One and completed an unbeaten red-ball campaign.
The seamer was absent from the squad to tour Pakistan for an ODI tri-series later this month when it was named on Thursday.
White-ball captain Harry Brook said last month that he felt Carse needed time away from the international game.
“I’m very good mates with Carsey. I’ve spoken a lot with him,” Brook said. “Those conversations are private.
“I think he just needs time away from the international scene. He’s working on a few things behind the scenes and hopefully he’ll be ready at some point in the future.”
