Newcastle still awaiting formal bid for Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle are still awaiting a formal bid from Arsenal for skipper Bruno Guimaraes, according to PA.

Widespread reports on Saturday evening claimed the Magpies had accepted a bid of £80m from the Gunners for their captain and a medical had been arranged for Monday, although sources on Tyneside were mystified by the suggestion.

Indeed, they insist there has still been no direct contact between the clubs over the 28-year-old Brazil international, who has indicated he wants to leave St James’ Park for the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Arsenal’s desire to add Guimaraes to the squad which lifted the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 last season is long-standing and well-known, although the Magpies have grown increasingly irritated by the speculation without action which has surrounded their player for weeks now.

Mykhailo Mudryk's return will 'take time'

Xabi Alonso has confirmed Mykhailo Mudryk will join up with the Chelsea squad in Hong Kong but expects his footballing comeback to ‘take time’.

"It's too early to tell how he is in terms of fitness, in terms of the game time you need to be involved again, so it's still too early to tell,” Alonso said.

"But we are happy for him, especially for him, because we are probably not able to understand what he has been through during this time and how he feels at the moment with the things he has had to cope with.

"We expect that it will take time. He trained on his own every day, and I think it had to be really, really hard because he wanted to play football, he wanted to be part of a team, and he was not allowed to do that for such a long time.

"Afterwards we will see if it's quicker or slower, but we need to be aware of that. We want him to feel part of the team. Once he is with us, we will see how things develop."

Roberto De Zerbi unsure over Richarlison future

Off the back of his winner in yesterday’s friendly against rivals Chelsea, Roberto De Zerbi is unsure if Richarlison wants to stay at Tottenham.

"I don't know because I like him as a player and as a guy," De Zerbi said at Accor Stadium. "He's unbelievable in terms of attitude and behaviour. But, in the end, we have to respect what he wants to do."

When pressed on whether Richarlison wants to leave, he added: "I don't know. I didn't understand well because sometimes he says he wants to stay, sometimes he wants to leave. We have to speak anyway. There is not any problem. He's a lovely guy."

Enzo Maresca 'perfect' for Man City

Josko Gvardiol has hailed Enzo Maresca as the ‘perfect’ choice to take the throne at Manchester City.

"The level is that high and he has been chosen with reason as the manager," said Gvardiol.

"I think he has a quality, has some new ideas and also we need to see what we are going to do [with] the style of [play], the football we are going to play and the tactics.

"I think he is a perfect one, but of course, it takes time. It's something totally new, it's not easy to change the manager, so we will take time.

"It's our job to help him as much as possible and also to listen to try to adapt as quick as possible.

"I met him, we spoke a little bit about my injury [and] also how we played, how I played before with Pep, and that's it, more or less."

Mikel Arteta provides update on Arsenal transfer plans after Girona friendly

Mikel Arteta has declared Arsenal’s ambition to make moves in the transfer market over the next few weeks.

"We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously," said Arteta after his side's 4-1 pre-season win over Girona.

"We want to get better like anybody else, and you can see the transfer market and our opponents... We won't sit still and we are very ambitious with what we are doing.

"The margins are very small. Because we want to get better and the level is going to increase. We need to increase the competition internally. We need to make sure we identify the things that we don't have in the team."
